Definitely not Scottish. And not really my point.
Space and bandwidth are important to us, and offering the best package with
1.5gb RAM is not realistic to me.

Yes, I understand, good 24x7 support is available and eliminates alot of
that side of my arguments. But it's still good to talk to local people.
If you scour the world for products and service you will always find things
cheaper than here in nz. But it's still sending dollars overseas. I'm really
excited about having a hosting company in nz that get behind coldfusion.

Interesting debate...
Supporting local is great if it makes business sense. 24x7 Support is not a
problem if you choose your partner carefully. Local providers can be
difficult to get hold of too, often out of office hours. Big pro for going
VPS, as at least you can get onto the box and fix a lot of things.

There is a lot to be said for being able to get on the phone and talk to Lee
during work hours and clients are happy to know that their site is hosted
within nz. I've certainly used states based hosting in the passed, and will
in the future, but only for sites that need to be over there. In the scheme

I'd be interested to hear what you can come up with.
One of the problems I found was that VPS solutions in NZ suffered from a
substantial lack of RAM and Bandwidth. Plans available had a comparatively
high price tag to oversea options.

i for one would be very keen lee. my client applications are starting
to mature nicely and am really needing at least a VPS environment
(with no limitation on what CF functions can be used).

I've been quietly listening in the background to this group, I hope you
don't mind!
We're at a stage where we are planning an upgrade to our CF8 shared hosting
plans to CF9 and with the Enterprise license there are new changes to allow
multiple virtual instances.
Mike's question has got me thinking as to whether there would be any demand

The only Australian and New Zealand conference aimed specifically at the hardcore*** end of ColdFusion development is back in 2010. Come November 18 and 19 of this year, we'll be picking up where we left off with a bigger and better event than last year.
We have an awesome new venue, great people on the organising committee and a totally revamped sponsorship programme. This year, cf.Objective(ANZ) will be held at Melbourne's Rydges Hotel. VPS hosting recommendations

hi guys, i am wanting to move one of my clients to a CF vps.
at the moment i would prefer to use a vps preinstalled with cf9 (as
opposed to buying my own license).
i have looked at viviotech.com and they have a pretty good deal at the
moment on cf9.
just wondering... has anyone had experience with vivio or can anyone

Nothing is safe when you use shared hosting :)
In all seriousness - it depends on how much memory the hosting company have in their servers, assigned to the JVM and to the heap within the JVM.
It takes quite a few quite large cfcs or massive queries in the application scope to actually create an issue. Creating and throwing away the CFC instances uses memory as well - memory gets allocated and garbage collected after the request - reasonable high churn. Security-wise - if a shared hoster is not running CF Enterprise with sandboxes and is reasonably well CF-educated, it's a question of a few minutes to get access to application scopes of other people (have seen that before) Can't speak of the quality of any particular companies in NZ though, I don't do shared hosting with CF.
