The Design Works building and adjacent Cottage at 89 Vauxhall Road are to be demolished. This means: 1. The loss of 1923 heritage buildings 2. ________________________________________________________________________________________ QUESTIONS ASKED BY DEVONPORT HERITAGE OF THE COMMUNITY BOARD 28 OCTOBER 2008
TO THE DEVONPORT COMMUNITY BOARD OCT 28 2008
REGARDING 89 VAUXHALL ROAD
1. We would like the Board to explain the process by which Council gave landowner’s consent as an affected party to the resource consent application for 89 Vauxhall Road.
- In particular, was any local representative involved in the approval given on Feb 20 2007 by the Council Parks Manager?
- Is the Community Board concerned at the situation that because Council gave landowner’s consent, this application was then considered as non-notified resource consent?
- Could the Board ask for an explanation from the parks officers involved, who have both left the Council, on what basis they decided the infringements would not affect people who use the reserve walkway?
- If all Council landowner’s consents are delegated to Council officers, how are local issues and concerns taken into account?
2. What reassurance can you give the residents of Grahame Street, that the proposal will not involve using their street for vehicle access?
3. What reassurance can you give the users of Vauxhall Road that this proposal will not have a detrimental effects on pedestrian and road safety on Vauxhall Road?
4. As our elected representatives you often state your commitment to heritage, but we believe you have let the people of Devonport down on this issue. What measures is this Board taking to protect heritage buildings in Business zones as a matter of urgency? ___________________________ PROTEST RALLY FEEDBACK: UPDATE 18 OCTOBER: The protest rally held on Saturday 18 October was extremely well attended: here are some photos of the day:
