Sorry about the phonecall confusion. The pointy end of the year seems very pointy this year.
I’ve attached the Ako rejection letter. Makes it clear that it was a good application that they didn’t see value in.
Let’s try again for a phonecall at 4pm on Monday the 2nd November. Hopefully Jane can reply with a phone number.
I’m in Auckland on Friday the 6th November (bizarrely on the way home from Palmerston North). Keen to catch up with anyone there.

Yes Kate – I will be at the NZAEE conference, have a paper to give – sort of interactive re the framework for planning (from thesis research) – on identifying who to get involved in whole school/faculty/organisation things. Something we all know – probably instinctively? But have to keep reminding myself others just see it as too hard if there is no process they can at least start to follow, then adapt etc…

With Monday being Labour Day, is there a revised date for the phone call?
I’ve just registered for the NZAEE conference and see Otago Poly has convened a short tertiary ed. hui at the start of the conference. Good one! Matt (my new assistant) and I are doing a paper on “fostering a sustainable campus community” and I remember Kate and Pam saying they had offered papers too so hopefully there will be a bit more of a tertiary ed. presence at the next conference. Who else is planning on going to the NZAEE conference?
Re: the Ako Aotearoa funding: oh well. Kate, apologies for not contacting you ages ago when you were developing the funding proposal. Clearly, I didn’t manage to get any UC academic takers to be part of the benchmarking project at this stage. I’ll send you soon though (I just need to make a few tweaks) a copy of a recent MBA project supervised by Lin Roberts and I which took an initial look at sustainability reporting for a university.
Re: Tertiary Ed. Strategy draft: thanks for the prompt, Sam. I’ll ensure I get some comments to my deputy VC next week to try to get something in a UC submission.

1. TES
You will have seen the email I just sent about the Tertiary Education Strategy – It would be good if you could prompt your organisations to include EfS in their submission (I talked to Phil Ker on Thursday, he says the VC/CEs are all busy writing submissions this week so now would be a good time to strike).

2. Funding
We didn’t get the Ako funding we applied for. Kate (Kearins) and I are trying to meet at the end of next week to see how we can accomplish the benchmarking project. Any ideas, please let us know.
3. Meeting
We’re on the hold-your-breath-until-the-end-of-the-year-run here and assume everyone else is the same. It would be good, though to have a phone meeting in the next week or so. How are people placed for 4 o’clock on the 19th?
Must be time to actually have what is left of Saturday.
